Planting season is officially underway, and exciting progress is happening right here in the Wiregrass.

We recently had the opportunity to spend time with Dr. Simer Virk and his students from Auburn Precision Agriculture as they began their latest planting trials, research made possible through funding from the Alabama Peanut Producers Association (APPA). These trials are focused on advancing precision agriculture practices and improving efficiency for peanut farmers across the state.

From calibrating equipment to getting seed in the ground, this hands-on work highlights the direct impact that research funding has on real-world farming. Not only are these trials helping develop better production practices, but they’re also giving students invaluable experience that will shape the future of agriculture.

It’s one thing to talk about innovation—it’s another to see it happening in the field.

Watch the video below to get a behind-the-scenes look at how these trials are getting started and why they matter for Alabama’s peanut industry.
